Michele is the Co-Founder and Director of Mint Communications whose mission is to connect parents and their children with international schools via events, digital and social media. Mint is the organiser of the largest international school fairs in Malaysia.
Michele started her career as an educator but moved into education and graduate careers media after three years. Prior to setting up Mint, she was Publishing Director and Head of Research for Asia for GTI Media, the world’s largest graduate careers media and research business. She played numerous roles in the course of her 11-year career at GTI – from managing the editorial team to managing the entire operations in Malaysia; she was actively involved in the setting up of the Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai branch offices. Her responsibilities at GTI involved strategic business planning, product development, research and training.
A dynamic speaker with a passion for helping people, Michele has been invited to speak at schools, universities, and education and corporate events on topics related to personal and career development. Hundreds of students have benefitted from Michele’s sessions on choosing a course and career.
She has a first degree in education and two Master’s degrees – one in English from the University of Malaya and the other in Psychology and Education from the University of Cambridge. Her PhD is in Organisational and Applied Psychology from the University of Nottingham where her research focused on career decision-making. Within her PhD research, she created a programme to help students develop key career decision-making competencies which formed the basis of the Students' course on this website.
In addition to her academic qualifications, she is also a graduate member of the British Psychological Society and a Certified Masterclass Trainer. Combining her practical knowledge of psychology and management, she provides a unique perspective on education and how it prepares students for careers in the future.
In 2023, she set up Michele Lam Consulting together with Nickie (see below for Nickie’s profile) to focus on helping students develop skills to make good career decisions.
